Businesses urged to take 'simple' steps to cut energy bills
Businesses can reduce the cost of their energy bills by taking "simple" steps to cut their consumption, according to an expert.
Raymond McGloin, head of business sales at npower, stated that one of the easiest things that companies can do is to ensure they are using energy efficient light bulbs and switching them off when they are not needed.
He added that employees should consider turning off other electrical equipment when it is not in use.
"All the [messages about] equipment we see in offices are very similar to the messages we hear at home, which include not leaving the equipment on standby," he explained.
"Even if companies can't switch computers off for technical or security reasons, the employee can still switch the monitor off, which can have considerable savings."
Recent research by npower found that nearly two-thirds of business employees feel that their company is wasting energy.
It was also revealed that 25 per cent felt it was difficult to take action to be energy efficient at their workplaces.
